American Buckinghorse Registry

by Philip Leimbach

Back in early fall Trevor Walker announced that he and partners would be starting a Bucking Horse Registry. On Novemeber 8th it was officially announced along with a Bucking Horse Buck Off. The American Buckinghorse Registry (ABR) is a Corporation out of Stephenville, Texas dedicated to the Broncs. Having spoken with a few Rodeo Stock Contractors as well as Mr. Trevor Walker of the ABR, I can tell you there is a lot of excitement about the future of Bucking Horses.

The ABR also announced an event in Glen Rose, Texas March 26-28, 2010. This event has garnered a lot of interest especially with $50,000 added to the purse. With 5 classes for the Horses to buck out in there should plenty of coverage for all levels of competitors. For more information you can contact:

The Roughstock Gazette!

by Pollie Williams

We've played with putting the Gazette  together for a few years now and it is now officially a go! The Roughstock Gazette is sponsored by Double P Tack and Maverick Rodeo Company and we are proud to have advertisements from C-T Rodeo and are happy to have a partnership with the Association of Professional Rodeo Photographers.

Basically we're starting because we do not feel the Roughstock Industry is well represented by any trade papers. So there was a decision made to change that. Yes we know and respect Humps N' Horns but we didn't see anything for the bucking horses, online we use to love reading the 2 Bulls forums but again there wasn't much for Broncs. So we are pleased to put forward a class online publication.

The Roughstock Gazette will be dedicated to Bucking Bulls, Bucking Broncs, the riders and the Bull Fighters at all levels. We sure hope you enjoy this publication and if you would like any information feel free to email us This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

It’s all part of the game

by Pollie Williams

Marketing, it is all just part of the game. When you look around it's important to look at people who have been successful in your business. For 2007 the New Mexico Department of Agriculture voted the New Mexico Pecan Company its top marketing company. Read the official release below:

“New Mexico Pecan Company of Mesilla, New Mexico, is being honored as Marketer of the Year for 2007 by New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA).

New Mexico Pecan Company began operations in 1990 as an extension of Frank Salopek Farms to market shelled and flavored pecans from a retail perspective. The sales of the value-added pecans created new opportunities for New Mexico Pecan Company to expand their marketing objectives by attending trade shows both domestically and internationally. It was at these trade shows, meeting with foreign buyers, where New Mexico Pecan Company developed an innovative approach to sell in-shell pecans to the Chinese market. After lengthy negotiations with several Chinese companies, New Mexico Pecan Company sold their entire production to China, making this the largest documented sale of New Mexico pecans to China. The success of this initial sale opened the door for other New Mexico producers to explore this exciting market with confidence and long-term commitments.

“The Marketer of the Year recipients must demonstrate creative and innovative marketing with success in the market place. New Mexico Pecan Company has established national recognition for shelled and flavored pecans and expanded its market share throughout the region,” says I. Miley Gonzalez, New Mexico secretary of agriculture.”

So what does this have to do with rodeo? Well do you want to make money at it or just piddle at the sport? How many people with talent and ability who tried to travel never made the big show because they ran out of money? How many who where slightly above average made enough to keep going because their sponsors helped them out just enough? Trust me if you talk to some of the greatest to ride they'll have stories about the guys who were very good and they still don't know why they never got that Gold Buckle!

Round 2 of the PBR Finals

by Pollie Williams

With only ten qualified rides on Halloween night the crowd was kept on the edge of their seats to see what would happen next. But for most of the riders, the bulls provided the house of horrors in the Thomas and Mack Center at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Round 2 of the PBR World Finals read like a who’s who of Bucking Bulls with almost every world champion bull contender represented. Firebird and Tahonta’s Shadow kicked off their cowboys and a night that would be highlighted by Pete Farley of Australia scoring a whopping 93 on Tom Teauge’s World Champion bull Bones to secure first place. A few flights later JB Mauney took everything thrown at him by Julio Moreno’s Troubadour for a 91.25  score and a share of second place when that score was matched just a few rides later by Ryan McConnel on Unabomber of Eno & Kubinchak.

You can follow the rest of the PBR World Finals on Versus Network or at http://www.pbrnow.com or at http://www.pbr.tv
